The Kennedy Assassination 50 Years Later

Fifty years ago today, on a Friday, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

Watch both videos only after reading this link.  Yes, I want you to read the entire article.  This is probably the best source of information about the assassination.  You will learn the events that transpired, conspiracy theories and some of the impacts of the event.  After you read the website, then watch the videos. I will warn you up front, some of you may find the second video a little disturbing.

The Kennedy assassination is probably the defining moment of my generation.  The impact of it, I believe is many ways still being felt today.  I have no doubt that it changed American and world history and not for the better.  Sadly, to many people think this event has no or very little significance.  How many of your classes, or other activities you participate in today will even acknowledge it?  I had the opportunity to visit his gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery this summer.  It is a very moving place to visit.  The crowds are quiet, respectful and take their time to pay their respects to President Kennedy.

Note to fourth block:  we will observe a moment of silence at 2 pm today in honor of President Kennedy.  Now for your assignment.  After you have read the website, maybe checked out some of the links and viewed the videos, post your feelings.  How does this impact you?  Do you feel differently about it after doing this assignment?

These videos were very stirring and even the article was too. Although at the same time it brings up a question, was it right for Jack Ruby to kill JFK’s assailant? Or is he just as wrong as the assailant. Overall this blog was very informative and interesting.

I dont know what to say. I am sure if that someone was attacked in a city you were just at, then you should watch out as well. It seemed planned and not planned, Jack Ruby might have had some other members working with him, or be was threatened or paid to kill Kennedy's assailent.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy was a horrible sight. He should not have gone through this; neither should his family and the people in Dallas. This was so tragic, I will never forget this day. Are we even sure that Jack Ruby "killed" the president? the car following right behind President Kennedy might have shot after he heard the first shot and accidently hit JFK.

I think that this moment in history is one of the worst ever. What could the Lee Harvey Oswald have been thinking when he pulled the trigger. John F. Kennedys assassination was a very sad moment for the U.S. and the world. Some say that it was a conspiracy theory. I believe that we can only believe what we have proof of and that is that Lee Harvey Oswald killed John F. Kennedy.

It’s sad to see that video, to see our own president get shot in front of me/ millions of people. President Kennedy probably could have changed the world. He had so much time to do things no other human would imagine. RIP. President Kennedy.

It’s sad to see one of our own president die like that. Inside a car going somewhere when he got shot in millions of people. But then somebody had to go and take his life.

I think the two videos and the article was very interesting, although the second video was a little disturbing but I watched it and saw what happened. I think it was very wrong and I know the people who were standing there felt very scared to see that. I know his wife was very upset and it happened right next to her!

These videos and the article both were very heart wrenching and disturbing. I have been able to learn a lot about Kennedy’s assassination through my government class do to my teacher’s love of the many different conspiracy theories, and trying to figure out what is true, and I have to say that I find all of it very fascinating. While all of it is very sad even to those of us who were not alive at the time, it is still amazing that they have not been able to figure out what exactly happened. Even with today’s technology and knowledge. I hope that we will be to learn and study this more deeply in more of my classes today, and I wish I was going to be home tonight to watch the documentary on it.

This was the shot heard around the world. The whole world was upset because Kennedy was a very well-known president. It was very sad for me to watch this and read about his kids at the funeral. It was his son's third birthday, I couldn't imagine how that little boy must have felt. I learned more about the assassination reading the article and I have a lot of respect for the Kennedy family.

I think this is one of the worst tragedies in America because he shouldn't of had to go through this. Some people are sad because of him dying, he was our president. I'm sure it was terrifying for people there to have too see him go through that and he doesn't deserve it.

I think this is a very important moment in U.S. history. I think extra precautions were needed on this day even if they didn’t know it. But I don’t think there was any reason, besides hatred, for them to kill JFK. But now we do have ways of avoiding this tragedy.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy was a very tragic event. It seemed to have impacted the whole country, and maybe even the whole world. I feel especially bad for Kennedy's wife, as she had to experience her husband being assassinated from 2 feet away.

This day in history, 15 years ago was probably one of the most saddest moments in history. Its sad to see a president that works hard for his country get shot because someone doesn't like or agree with what he says. He had so much to live for and had accomplished so many things. A innocent man doing his job shouldn't have gotten shot for doing what satisfies his people. R.I.P President Kennedy

I think this is a terrible sight. This is one of the worst things that has happened in America. If I heard it come on the radio that day I think I wouldn't know what to do.

All though this was an important event in history I don’t feel affected by it. He was an honorable man who was doing good, major good at that, for his country but although we should pay respect to him we shouldn’t dwell on things from 50 years ago. America has too many problems now to worry with what he could have done. He did plenty for America and he died a Hero but we need to focus on what’s happening now.

President Kennedy's assassination will be forever be known as one of the most tragic events in U.S. history to date. It impacted the country if not the world as many representatives from other states and countries came to pay their respects to the fallen president. John F. Kennedy's legacy will live on forever.

This was a very sad event that happened, especially when his wife was right beside him when he was shot in the chest, then the head. You could see the devastation that she felt as she held him then jumped away after he was shot in the head. If he wouldn't have been shot that day there might have been either a better or worse future, but we can’t change the past. The man who shot J.F.K should have been arrested as soon as they found out who brought the death upon the president.

This day marked a time of great dispair. I cannot imagine sitting in the livingroom watching news and hear about this. I think that he could've done alot more for america and could've taken us very far.

I believe that the Assassination of J.F.K was terrible. He was not expecting anything like that to happen at all. The crowd was cheering as he was riding down the street with his wife. Then out of no where he gets shot along with the Govener. It’s good that the govener recover but, it was tragic what happened to the President. Lee Harvey Oswald was wrong to do soemthing like that. I think it is funny how he was killed afther that by Jack Ruby. J.F.K seemed like a good president. Reading some of the speeches he made before that. They were good and he seemed that he was a good husband and took care of his duties.

This is one of the the worst tragedies in the U.S.A. For this to happen in front of His wife was sad to see. The U.S.A is and still learning how to avoid a tragedy. Who knows, JFK might still be with us today.

This assassination was very tragic. I'm sure that it had a huge impact on the people who represent the United States of America. And as for his wife i'm sure she was really hurt of course for the fact he was murdered but also as for him to get murdered right there in front of her face. J.F.K seemed like a great man. And a'lot of people had a'lot of respect for him. Who ever killed J.F.K should be sorry and should be penalized. But we couldn't change anything all we can do as United States Citzens is hope that it will never happen again.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy had to change many people’s life in the process. This was a very sad day in history. No one should have to die that way. If I was Mrs. Kennedy I would have been really scared.

President John F. Kennedy and his political advisers were preparing for the next presidential campaign. He was running for re-election. Then, on November 12, he held the first important political planning session for the upcoming election year. Then, he went to a meeting to talk about Florida and Texas. Everyone was waiting for JFK to arrive, and everyone was excited and they were waving at him. Everything was going great, President Kennedy was on his way, and nothing was standing in his way. Until, he got shot in his head and neck, then one of the bullets flew right out of his body, and into the governor’s chest. He was trying to get to the Parkland Memorial Hospital which was just a few minutes away. However, JFK was pronounced dead by a Catholic Priest. At 2:38 p.m., Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested in less than an hour. He was being held for the assassination of JFK and the fatal shooting. Oswald died two hours later at the Parkland Memorial Hospital. Oswald should be ashamed of himself. I wondered what it would’ve been like if JFK was never assassinated. We will never know if this would have changed the past, present, or future.

It’s been 50 years. 50 years is a long time and we are still upset about it. JFK might not have been the best president, but it is not the point. Oswald or any other person from conspiracies did not have to do this. He was trying to get Texas on his side for votes and somebody hated him so much that they shot him, that is not the right way to handle things.

The day John F. Kennedy was assassinated was a dark day for America. Although it could have been prevented easily the President insisted for a convertible. this was a bad decision on his part. I believe that this should not have happened Kennedy was a honorable and humble president and father alike and may he Rest In Peace.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy was a very horrible site. Kennedy was a outstanding person let alone President. He did countless of things for our country if not we wouldn't be where we are today.

This event in history had a huge impact on America and it's citizens. In my opinion, it has a lot of significance, especially if people are still moved by it. His death was tragic and very sad and many of people were effected. President John F. Kennedy did not deserve to be assassinated just as anyone else. There was definitely a better way to handle and deal with the murderers problem than to murder someone very special to our country. The articles we read, and videos we watched really changed my opinion on this topic.

This assassination was very emotional for many people in 50 years ago. It had such an impact on the people it may still be sensitive to talk about today. I believe, President JFK was a good man and did not deserve to die. It's also upsetting that they don't know for sure who helped Oswald.

The assassination of JFK was one of the worst assassination ever since Abraham Lincoln's assassination. JFK will always be remembered and we will always support JFK. Lee Harvy Oswald shouldn't have shot JFK because he is considered as a murder now and he should of thought before he shot the rifle and he should have never been in the building to start with.

The John F Kennedy assassination was one of saddest moments in American history. Its never good when a man with so much power and respect is murdered in cold blood. Its sad that its been 50 years and no clear evidence of who shot JFK. I hope no other president gets killed. I think not only was the event a tragedy but also a conspiracy.

The day when John F. Kennedy died it had changed so many peoples lives ever since. He was planning for the next presidential campaign. He got shot in the head and the neck. If the man that was right beside him never left he would have been just find. John shouldn't have to die that way. It just isn't right for him to die like that. The United States of America is still trying to avoid the tragedy. I felt bad for his wife because she was sitting right beside him when he had got shot. That must have been a terrible sight.

The assassination of JFK was one of the worst events in history yet. But did they really find the killer? Are we eve sure Jack Rudy kill JFK.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy was a very shocking event. It also probably took it along time to get the news out so a lot of people were confused and scared. You have to wonder what goes through a persons mind to be able to do a task to shoot someone or to even think about shooting someone. I feel like on this day in history it really changed how people see presidents and their protection.

Wow, watching the videos of one of our presidents getting assassinated is one horrible thing to watch. JFK should not have been a victim of the shooting. I just hope our present or future president does not experience this horrible thing.

The day John F. Kennedy was shot was not a good day for America. He was shot twice once in the head and one in the neck. This is a tragedy and people are still trying to get over this day.

It must have been horrible to watch that, it gives me chills now just watching it and we hear about a murder everyday but not important as JFK. I feel bad for Mrs. Kennedy , to see her husband torn apart like that. I bet she will have that image in her mind to the day she dies.

i don't know what to say about November 22. John F. Kenndy was amazing president and it was so sad to see him go from an unknow person who shot him in the head. Today was a very sad day for the United State of America.

I think it’s really sad that President Kennedy was shot. People talk very highly of him and I think that’s why he got shot. He was such a great president it seems like every great president gets shot. I don’t why because it’s cruel but no one deserves to get shot like Kennedy did. I think the man that did this doesn’t deserve symphony. Any person that takes another life has no heart.
