One Final Act of Kindness

What if you knew when you were going to die?  What would you want your final act and conversation to be?  Meet San Diego police officer Jeremy Henwood.  Not only was he a highly respected police officer, he was a highly decorated Marine veteran who had served several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.  As you watch the video you will find out that he had just walked into a McDonald's and was ordering food when a child asked him for some change to buy cookies. Officer Henwood purchased the cookies for him.  Minutes later he was gunned down in a cold blooded shooting.  So his final interaction with a human being was to show kindness to a child.

Think for a few moments.  How heroic and compassionate is that?  So, what would you want your final act to be?  In your post, tell us your reactions to the story and what you think of his final act.  Would you have reacted differently to the child?  What has happened to the child since the shooting over two years ago?

Jeremy Henwood was a heroic man. For him to buy cookies for a child he has never even met before shows how heroic and compassionate Jeremy is. I would want my final act to be spent with family and friends, so they could see me one last time. Jeremy’s final act left a mark on so many people including me. I would not have acted any differently towards the child. I would have done the same as Jeremy. The young boy is still shocked that someone he just met died a few minutes later.

I think this story is a great example for how people should act. It seems like there are more selfish people in the world today. Nobody pays attention or cares about people anymore. This video was very sweet and I’m glad that Mr. Henwood was very kind to the boy. Hopefully the boy will accomplish his dreams and live for Jeremy Henwood. I have no clue what I would want to do in my final moments. It just shows you never know if you’ll wake up tomorrow. Make sure you do everything you want in life, because we only have one life to live.

I was surprised about the video, this is the first time I have ever heard or seen it. I suppose I never heard or seen this is because I rarely watch the news except for weather. Mr. Henwood is a good guy for doing that, but I have never met that guy so I wouldn’t know. I wonder what that boy’s life is like now after that moment, I hope he is doing ok. What Mr. Henwood did will be remembered by that boy for the rest of his life. I don’t know how I would react to the child, I would have probobly do it if I had the money.

Mr. Jeremy Henwoods story is very heart warming, and heart wrenching at the same time. I honestly do not know how I would have reacted to the child, as much as I would like to say that I would do the same as Henwood, that is just not likely. I think this is a great example of how we should act today, kind without giving it a second thought. I feel as though Mr. Henwoods words will forever be in that boys’ heart, he will never forget it, and neither will any of the other people that were lucky enough to know Henwood.

Wow! That was a really shocking thing, I think the little boy was actual hurt because the guy bought cookies for him and minutes later someone shoots him. I would have been very upset and shocked because it happened right then and there. He just brought something for a kid that he didn’t even know! I think the officer was very caring for doing that for a 13 year old kid and I think the little boy felt very good that he bought him cookies. I also think the little boy is still shocked that someone who bought him cookies at Mcdonald’s died minutes later.

I think that what officer Jeremy Henwood did was very kind and compassionate he didn’t have to do that for the child. What he did for the child will probably be with him the rest of his life. I can’t believe that after that random act of kindness he was shot in cold blood it makes no sense to me. If I was officer Henwood I probably would have done the same thing for the child. I believe that random acts of kindness like this are what can change a person life.

I feel truly sorrowful for Mr. Henwood and his family. At least he got show one more act of kindness before he was killed. God rest his soul. Hopefully the boy Mr. Henwood helped will do his best to make a change in society. This is a very saddening story maybe people will learn something from it.

To my thought I think that his final act was very heroic. Anytime a man of his notion would usually not give child money for something. I would give him all my blessings for that act. In that situation he did not deserve that. If that was me I would give him that money to get what he wanted.

I think that what Officer Jeremy Henwood did for that little boy was just so generous and compassionate. But the sad thing is that he died right after he did that kind thing for the little boy. Just why did somebody have to do that?

I think the officer was a kind man and didn't deserve to get shot like that. In my opinion I would have bought the boy cookies to. It’s sad the officer had gotten shot down like that for no reason he deserved a good life. Especially being that he fought for his country and helps so many people. It’s sad to see a good man go down in vein.

I believe that this extraordinary act of kindness would be amazing even if he didn't die moments after. It is really hard to find people like that in our day and age. The fact that this was his final act just makes it all the more beautiful.

I was very surprised seeing this, I had never seen before, but what he did was so nice and he didn't deserve what happened. The kid is going to remember that for the rest of his life. When first watching the video, i would've never guessed that the officer was gonna get shot.

Officer Henwood's story is both sad and inspirational. I would've bought the cookies for the little boy too. I don't think Henwood would have wanted his final moments to go any other way.

His acts of were thoughtful buying a treat for a kid, but I think we’re looking at this from the wrong angle. He bought someone else a treat but I feel its time wasted focusing on a cookie; he was an officer who served in the military and died doing his job. We should be honoring his life and not honoring this one small event. I understand the significance of your last act but even still, He should be honored as a soldier.

I think based off his actions for that child he was a very kindhearted man. I don’t think the child will ever forget him. He and the child definitely would have been friends. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future that child is very successful and references the officer.

This story is sad because a nice police officer was so heroic and nice to people. I would want my final moments of my life to be a moment where I help someone do something good. I think the police officer's words will always be in that little boy's heart because no one knows, it may have been the nicest and the most helpful words he has ever heard in his life time.

This is so sad that Jeremy had to die right after he gave a boy some money for cookies. No one should ever get killed for nothing at all. You could tell that he was a great man. The boy was really happy that the officer gave him money for cookies.

The officer was a very heroic man, and his final act of kindness was an impressionable thing to watch. It was very polite and generous for him to buy that young boy cookies, not everyone has a kind heart. After the fact that he was shot, he will still remain a kind and heroic soul that will live on for who knows how long. If I knew when I were to pass on, I would help underprivileged kids have fun when they might not be able to. I'd talk to them and give them a spill about how real life is and that you have to work hard in order to reach your dreams.

He was a very nice and caring man. It was grateful of him to buy that kid some cookies. I know a lot of people that are like that.

The police officer was very kind to the thirteen year old. Most people wouldn’t even give someone a penny for something that they wanted or needed if they didn’t have enough money. He was really thoughtful. It was a shame for that officer to die. I wish most people would be as considerate as this officer was.

He was a very heroic man. He must have been one of the best of cops out there. He did not know he was going to be killed, but he still was kind to a young boy by buying him cookies. When I die I want to be well rembered for my acts of kindness and who I was. He was remebered for who he was with out trying to hard to get there. He was not an act he was and action. By that I mean he was not someone who was only nice when people are watching or knowing something is going to happen. He is always in action with doing those types of things. Even if no one is really watching he chooses to be kind and heroic. That’s the type of person I would like to be. If I knew I was going to die. I dont know what I might do. I would try to live my life to the fullest. I would do kind things for everyone.

This video shows how everybody should be and act towards a person even if they don't know them. This officer is a true hero in my mind. This is a wonderful video.

I think Jeremy Henwood was very kind man to that, for the 13 year old. I feel bad for the 13 year old, because the man who brought the cookies for him, died a few minutes later.I think Jeremy Henwood should be honor for what he did.

This story is inspirational. It was very kind for Officer Henwood to buy the buy cookies, and it shows what kind of person he was. Its sad that he was killed.

What the officer showed towards the child was very kind and thoughtful. The world needs more people like that, that care and respect other around them. If I knew I was going to die I would want to leave a lasting impression on someone just as Officer Henwood did.

This article is a reminder of a reason to be nice because you wouldn't want to be remembered as a mean person. If you are nice and show care for others most people will remember you for being nice. If I knew I was gonna die I would do something I have never done and if there isn't enough time I would want to be with my family and good friends.

What a nice cop. A cop that gave a kid three cookie had to die. That dumb person probably did not see the act and did not care, but that does not mean that you need to shoot him for nothing. The kid was probably inspired by his kindness and is now sad for him now that he is dead.

Jeremy Henwood was a very passionate and heroic man in the stingy world we live in today it takes a lot for a person to buy cookies for a random boy he has never met before. It was also very tragic the way Mr. Henwood died he dedicated his whole life protecting the country he loves and then gets shot by someone in it. I hope the boy envies Mr. Henwood and always follows his dreams.

This is a great way of saying being nice can get you so far in life. The officer has a very kind heart. The world would be so much better if we all are kind to one another. If I knew I was going to die, I would want to leave this earth as a well-known person. Not someone who is always mean or anything. Just someone who you could come to talk to if you had any problems. This is a very inspiring story.

What a wonderful man Jeremy Henwood was, for him to buy the young boy cookies. I wonder how the young boy is living now, knowing that someone who bought him something died a few seconds after. Jeremy final act was very sweet, and such a generous thing to do.

Jeremy Henwood was a very kind police officer. He spent one of the last few minutes of his life helping a child. This just goes to show in the world we live in today you need to appreciate every minute of your life, and not take a single day for granted.

Jeremy Henwood was a brave man. He lost his life because of someone who was stupid, but not 30 minutes before he was killed, he did amazing thing. If I knew I was going to die I would tell my family and the ones who I love that I would be in their hearts forever and I loved them. I would have done the same thing if the child asked for money to get something to eat. I bet that the child has open his eyes and looked at the world different.

Jeremy Henwooods is head on example of a role model. Despite him putting his life on the line everyday to make the world a safer place. Its the little things you do to help people or children. Any other person or let alone police officer wouldn't have done what he did. All the kid ask for was 10 cent for a cookie and he bought him three cookies. I could die knowing that I a smile on a young boys face. Jeremy Henwoods is a hero in my book.

Officer Henwood was nice and heroic man. He was buying cookies for a 13 year old . Then a couple minutes later he was killed. You should be kind to people like officer Henwood was to that 13 year old.
