Oh No, He Didn't , Did He?

By now, I am sure you have heard the news about LaShawn Merritt. He has been banned for two years from track and field competition for having used a banned substance, specifically an anabolic steroid, that was contained in an over the counter product.
Of course, you know that he is from Chesapeake and now resides in Suffolk. You probably remember his winning the 400 meter event at the 2008 Olympics and the news splash it caused here. Were you proud of him then? How do you feel about this new revelation?
Read the Washington Post article hyperlinked above. How do you feel about this? Should his punishment be as severe as it is? Will he be able to bounce back from this, or will it ruin his career? Be sure to proofread.

It would seem that they should test the drug he complains contains the drug to see if it does in facet contain steroids. That would more than likely erase the whole problem. It would also save him from public shunning.

I think it was wrong and that he shouldn't of done that. Even though it was legal, it provides an unfair advantage for him and his team. Man that would be a very awkward trial.

OH YES HE DID! I am still proud of him reguardless of his simple minded mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes im sure. Im know he is not the only athlete that used this steroid. In my opinion they should give out drug test randomly every month, to every football team and other sports.

I am proud of him but he shouldnt have used steriors. Even tho he won two medals, he disever to be in the games. I also do know why he used that for sterios.

This shouldn't ruin his career, everyone makes mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance. He wasn't even aware that he was taking steriods. He's an awesome athlete with high potential, and he deserves to compete in the Olympics again.

I think it is fair. Steriods or banned substances are prohibited for a reason. It's cheating, someone naturally fast and strong should win the competition. When he wins it's not really him it's the product.

Al tho he basically cheated, his punishment is a little harsh. He'll learn his lesson. He's not the only athlete to have used steroids, so the media should give him a break.

I don't think that his punishment should be severe as it is. I mean he was just doing things to help him to win. Many people use steriods and i do not blame him for doing it. It was his choice. He's an athlete and knows what he was doing and if it was a bod choice or not.

That was pretty sad. It was also really funny, I think. I don't know why a man like that would use that substance. I think he's a great runner and a great athelete but i still don't understand.

probably, yes because he shouldnt have had steroids in his system period. Especially in a competition

I don't think that his punishment should be as severe, because it's not really a steroid. Even if it was, I still don't see why so many people get in trouble for using them because they're just trying to help themselves do better. Two years for just trying to help himself out, and it wasn't even steroid, I think they were blowing it way out of proportion.

i think that he just wanted to do good and wont thinking at the time of what kind of trouble but everybody makes mustakes so maybe he will think twice before doing somthing like that aign.

I thank that that is really funny. For some one of his age to be using ExtenZe. It going to be really hard for him to keep up his training over them 2 years.

WOW this is sad. Also this is so funny. Why would he need that. This is stupid.

I feel that he deserves a second chance. I punishment should not be as severe as it is. Everyone makes mistakes, and he has clearly realized that he has messed up. By reading the things he has said, I can tell that he is remorseful about his mistake. He should be forgiven.

There are many other athlets who have use steriods before. I believe he should recieve a second chance, everyone makes mistakes.
Steriods should be opened for people to use at there own risk.

People like this make me feel bad for them. I honestly don't know whether a man can bounce back from something like that. It all depends on if they want to bad enough. If he wants to keep his career as an athlete than he can make his dreams come true.

I really never heard of him, but I am not that big into the Olympics. I think that he deserves the punishment he got, because he shouldn't have been using the steroids in the first place. He stated that he had no idea of the steroid consumption, yet there is a list of drugs that Olympians are not permitted to consume and he failed to follow this, his punishment is not to harsh.

I think that the Olympic committiee
and the head of the U.S. track and field team have treated him too harshly. You shouln't be able to take his medals away if he UNKNOWINGLY used the steroids. Seriously how dumb are people?

I think the punishment its good for the offense. Steriods help athletes cheat and thats wrong. Its become a major problem in sports especially in track and baseball. Several years ago steriods were leagal, but there not now so athletes should not use them.

I figure that when people use steroids and dont do good they dont push the issue of testing them. The only reason they checked him is because he was doing good.

Well I think that his punishment is a little much. But that's not my choice. I new LaShawn Merritt my friend is his cousin and he went to my old high school (Wilson High School). I'm very surprised that he would do that he didn't need it to win dude is super fast. I think once he gets back he will win another medal.

I think he is paying for what he did. He knows he shouldn't have done that and its a risk he took. I also think it wouldn't have been fair to everyone else in the track if they didn't make a big deal about it. But it shouldn't his career because everyone makes mistakes.

See my point why would the prees leek private information to people when they say that it is under discretion and these pills didnt make him faster they jus made him well you know what I meen

lisa said...

I think it was wrong for them to give him a hard time with this. I don't know him but I hope he get out of this trouble. This is wha tI think of this article

I think that atheles shouldn't use steriods, they should get a punishment, but everyone deserves a second chance. Two years is a long time. Hopefully he will learn that it's wrong and shouldn't do that again. In my opinion if he didn't know, then he shouldn't have gotten that big of a punishment.

I think it is fair. Steroids are illegal and give an unfair advantage in competitions. If you do win by taking steroids, it's not you who won. Its the steroid.
