From 6-0 to 0-6!

Wow. Just a few days ago Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach has a football record of 6 wins and no loses! Until Wednesday of last week that is. Based on using an "ineligible player" the Dolphins were ordered to forfeit all those victories. Ouch! This will probably keep them from the playoffs.
Have you read the news article! If you have not, then read it again. IF you have read it before, you might want to review it another time. It seems that another high school pointed out the possible violation and a committee decided for the forfeits. Ocean Lakes plans to appeal.
What do you think of the situation? Is this an attempt to cheat the system or an honest mistake? Is it fair to all the other players on the team? Do High Schools try to "beat the system" when it comes to sports? The news story from Channel 3 might shed some more light on these issues. Tell us your opinion. Proofread! As a group you did much better on Friday than previous postings! Keep it up!
As a follow up, did you know that Ocean Lakes won their game last Friday?

I think that it is funny. Because they knew he wasn't living in the school area.I think they were just trying to hide him so they could win some games.

I think that this was an honest mistake. The school can't possible know if every student is living where they say they live. I think that they should not take those wins because one person does not make a team, they are punishing every one by taking all those wins away.

I think that this is sad that they would do this to a football team, especially such a good one. Just because one kid lives outside the district doesn' mean that the whole team lives outside the district. It takes more than one player to make a team. This is ridiculous.

Mr. Downing, you wrote an interesting blog. I think that they could be trying to cheat the system. But they shouldn’t have had all their wins stripped away from them.

I believe that because Ocean Lakes used an illigal player they sould have to forfiet all of the wins they collected this season. Justin was an impact player who is the number five wide reciever in the country. With out Justin i doubt that Ocean Lakes would have as many wins as they did before they got cought.

I don’t think its cheating. I think it's a mistake. You can't take wins that a team has already won away like that. I think it’s stupid, they just wanted to find something to say about him because he's good. You just don’t come out of nowhere and say you’re not in here attendance zone. You can't do the whole team like that just cause of one person.

I think that the Virginia Beach Dolphins were cheating. It's very unusual that a team can have that many wins and not lose. Someone on that team wasn't in the district.

I think that they were cheating having a top recuirt coming to their school. It's not fair to other teams working their butts off. The kid knew he was doing wrong and now he is paying for it.

Wow this is horrible. I don't think that this is fair for the team to have to forfeit their wins. It's not fair that they had to play so hard to win and have all of their wins taken away. I don't think that they were trying to cheat. I think think it was a mere mistake. Hopefully something good can come out of this.

I honestly don't think this is fair to the players, the coaches, or the school. Taking away all of their games is just wrong. One player does not make a team and if that single player wasn't there then it's not like they would lose all the time. Plus, he was attending the school, they didn't just grab him off the street.

The ruling isn't exactly unfair, but a rule was broken. It was probably a mistake, though. I think this bureaucracy is not worth forfeiting a winning season. They should be allowed to keep their victories. taking him out of the rest of the season should be enough.

This could be a mistake or on purpose. The school may have known the student was not from the district. Whatever the reason, it does not seem fair to take away the teams wins because of this. Unless the student is too old or is on steroids, this doesn’t seem fair.

I think this is an honest mistake; however there were mistakes on both sides. One the school should have made sure that he transferred out. Two he should have made sure he transferred out. This was however a big loss for the Dolphins.

I think that its a mistake because he could live in Chesapeake and go to that school and they wouldn't know. I think that they shouldn't take away their wins because they worked hard for them. If they take them away it will take all the spirit out of the players and the kids at the school.

I really don't think that it's right for them to take away all of their wins this season when they probably didn't even cheat. Also I think that it wasn't very right for the other school to tell on them when they weren't really doing anything wrong. If this happened at our school then I know everybody would be really mad.

It really doesn't matter what any one says on this blog... nothing is going to change the decision. However, VA Beach does have a lot of problems (Corruption, McDonald's $1.25 menu, high school football teams snitching on each other because the lost...). I have heard worse about the "Micheal Vick Incident" than what is happening with Ocean Lakes High School!

I think that this was an honest mistake. They shouldn't take those wins away from the team. The kid goes to the school, he should be able to play football. Thanks for the video!

I think that it is a mistake I don't think that the student knew that he had to live in that area. It would be wrong if they took their wins away from them. They worked so hard to earn their wins and now they might lose them.

I think this a is sad thing to do to a football team, that has worked so hard to win their games. To me, I thinks its an honest mistake. Everyone makes mistakes in life and I guess this is just one they looked over. I also think, that no matter how you look at their situation they still worked hard to get where they are, so they shouldn’t have to forfeit their games! If this happened at Windsor High School it would be a lot of individuals upset because our boys work hard=]
