Words

You have heard many things about words.  Some of these sayings might be as simple as "words have meanings" and "your words become you."   Here is a bit of a more complex thought:  "Change your words. Change your world."

Take a look at the power of changed words
What did you think of the video?  Do you believe that your words really can change your world?  What kind of effect would the new sign have had on you?

I think the video is really sad because the man in the video is homeless and he cant see. Another thing is i think words do matter it can affect there feelings and what u say to them. Overall i think it was a really good video.

words have meaning. When she changed the sign. She made him richer then the homeless guy with the golden voice.

This video was very touching and can show the world how words can make a difference. Just the slightest change in the way you put your words can make the biggest difference. For example telling someone they look amazing instead of saying they just look good. The slightest change of words could make that person feel better about themselves. I think if more people saw this video they would feel the same way. ☯☯☯☯

The lady in the video was very nice because she didn't have to help him out. But I am wondering how his first sign was written because he cant see. Someone should take him to a nursing home because he doesn't have anywhere else to go.

This video is touches me. I think the lady really has a kind heart. The man should be thank-ful for the lady.

This video almost brought me to tears. (not really).. That is the difference between a "good" video and a "bad" video, for example "mom song" "BAD". But as for this video it really makes you think about people that are less fortunate then we are. And that really live all day and night without being able to see and know what the world looks like.

I loved this video, it was very touching to me! This video also made me believe that words can just really change the world. The new sign would have effected on me, because I was blind and didn't have money, but now I do have money. Another effect would have been how she taught me how rewording words could change the world!!

In the video, a disabled homeless man is shown sitting on the side of a city road with a sign that says that he is blind and needs money. Many people pass by the man, but only a few actually lend him some change, until a woman changes what the sign says for him. I think that the video was trying to put out a message saying that how we say things matter, and that they change how others can view a situation.

I have always been told that our words have a meaning, but this is the first time I've ever heard that you should change your words. I thought that the video was very moving and that the woman who changed the blind man's sign was very kind. It's amazing how only the slightest changing of words can effect someone.

This video was really nice! I think words have more meaning behind them then others think. I also like there accents!

“Sniff, sniff,” this made my beautiful day sad.  That lady was such a sweetie and I admire her. I also admire how the blind man doesn’t ask what it is she wrote but thanks her. Words do have more meaning then most people can understand. This is only one example, and if more people learned how to use words more wisely then the world would become a more beautiful place. Words can be used in wrong ways and right ways and by stopping and taking a moment to think lives can be changed and smiles brought upon others faces. A beautiful day can be seen, but not by all people, so next time you see a blind man asking for money “THINK WHAT YOU SAY OVER.” You could change his life and make it a memorable day in his un-colorful world.

I think the video was pretty sad. It made me realize how lucky I am today. I don't have perfect vision, but I can still see. And never really knew how words could change how much change you give a blind homeless man. And i guess there was some sad music in the background too, but couldn't hear it.(Suicide Silence on the other tab.)

I thought this was a very moving video to a lot of people. Thanks to that woman changing his words for him he was able to get a lot more money. The way you word your sentences determines how people see will see you.

This video was very touching. If she hadn't helped that man out he wouldn't have gotten as much money as he did. The lady was a very kind hearted lady. There aren't many people like her in this world. I think words can change a lot. The things you say can have an effect on somebody's life. Choose your words wisely.

This video was very inspirational. I really do believe words can change the world. I think the words the woman wrote on the board really got to people a little more than the other words.

I think that this video is sad. That the man was blind and couldn't see the good in some people. That lady did a really good deed by writing that for him. And I'm sure he was very grateful for her doing that.

The video to mean was very moving. The women said the same thing, but just in different words. It can really make you think different about how you say something to someone.

The video was definately an inspiring one. It demonstrates the power words can have on not only yourself, but the people around you. This is why people should think about what they say before they say it, because even if you mean one thing it can come across as another.

Danielle said...

When putting words in a better way or should I say a stronger way can help in so many ways. The women who wrote his sign differently made a huge difference, at first he wasn't getting any help at all. Then after she wrote it in a different way he got lots of help and he didn't even ask what she wrote he just said thank you.

After watching this video clip I can fully understand how using words can effect the way you come across. What that young woman did for that blind man was absolutely selfless and quite amazing because not many people are left like her in the world today. Using certain words can completely change a person's view of you and who you truly are. There are many things in this life that cannot be changed but words are not one of them; by using a few simple words you can change a person's entire view of how they see the world.

This video was very moving, on two different levels possibly. How the women helped the blind man is very heart fealt. And even though hes blind hes thankful for alot. Also the mans Scottish accent, I loved it.

The same thing can be said multiple ways; which way you choose can effect your outcome. I notice this everyday at school. Some people have been raised in another area or walk of life and find it frustrating trying to get through to a another group of people. They may not like the way you talk to them, when it could sound clean as a whistle to yourself. That's why when I speak I try to keep everyone around me in mind

I believe that the what you say and how you say it is really important because depending on what you say will depend on the reaction of the crowd.

I think the video was quite said. One reason is that the man cannot see. As he sits there in front of the steps hoping people will drop some money or pocket change in his little tin can. Next, a woman walks by and seen what was going on and rewrote his sign. She knew that it would help him more and it did. He started getting more change. Everyone saw it and felt so bad. I would have gave the poor man some change, it's a hard and harsh world out there.

The video was kind of sad. People are really suffering. The lady was nice by helping him get more money. Only because she changed his words. Words mean a lot.

This video is very sad and makes me thankful that I can see. The lady in this video was very kindhearted to do that and I think the man was overwhelmed when people were giving him all their change. Some may say that’s stupid but that video is not stupid because one day what if you just woke up and could not see, how would you feel???????

Your words can change your world. This video was rather touching and showed that words can change a situation from negative to positive. The video got a good message across: different words have different meanings, and those different meanings can make a big difference.

Words can really dig into people's minds, if the right ones are used. By saying " I'm blind, help me." the man fails to relate with the passing people. However, when the sign is changed, the people see that the day is beautiful and feel pity for the man that he can't see it.

Anna DeMatteo said...

I think the video is very beautiful yet inspiring. It shows that words put in different ways can really make a difference. Also, I think the lady is very kind-hearted because she knew that it would help him out with the change of words.

Some say, "Actions speak louder than words", but I don't believe that to be true all of the time. I think the video was a great way to get across what Mr. Downing was trying to explain for today. There is always a better way to put something across to one another. Thinking before you speak is always a good thing. I enjoyed the video and today's topic.

Words can mean a lot. That's why you should always make sure that you aren't saying things that could hurt someone. Just like in the video, it's implying that maybe if we all started treated everyone respectfully, the world would be different in a better way.

The video was very powerful and moving. I think that the woman that changed the sign for him knew that what she did would make a difference in whether or not people would give him more money. Just as she thought, he got lots more money. She is a very nice lady.

I'd like to say my whole world was changed by watching the 2 minute video, but it wasn't. It was very touching and got its point across though. The message of the video was very, uh, eye opening and I liked it. Besides that the sign would make me pity him. Being blunt about a disability sometimes is a put off, by saying he couldn't see the beautiful day it made his disability seem more real to the passerbys.

Jake D. said...

Every single word in the dictionary has a meaning. The lady was really nice to redo his sign. But even though the man did not word his sign right, people still should've gave him money before his sign was redone.

This is a very inspiring video. It shows how words can touch peopole in a totally different way depending on the way you say the m. I think the lady is very thoughtful for changing the sign for him.

This video proves that the world can make a difference. Even if it is as simple as the lady changing the blind man's poster. This video warms my heart!

What the woman did for the old man was very kind and a whole hearted thing to do. Honestly, I can say that it wouldn't have thought of doing the same thing. More likely than not I wouldn't have just given him change out of my pocket I would have gone all out for him, even if he was a complete stranger. By watching the video it definately showed that by just rewording that it cna make a huge diffence in the life of people.

Wow, that video was powerful! I'm just overwhelmed with emotions for the whole situation. To think that the lady simply changed everything for that man by only rewording what he said, is amazing. Words have a porfound effect on everybody, especially when they are hurtful words. I would like to think that the world would be a better place if people would actually think before they speak and use the right words.

$hyanne said...

Its true, the lady did write the same thing but in different words. They way you word things has a big effect on the response you will receive. That's the whole point of "Change your words, Change your world". Rewording something to make others connect to what you are saying.

I think this video is great! Just by changing the way you word something, can make a big difference. I am very glad the lady helped him!

I liked the video lots cause it was a person being kind and helping a blind homeless dude. And words can make a difference in the world.

I thought this video was really sad. When the lady changed his sign she told him that she wrote the same thing but differently. What she meant was that words have meanings. You can just use them in diffirent ways. The video shows that words can make all the difference.

I found the message of this video very powerful. Words have so much power behind them and I have learned that. Words can be negative and positive and can impact a life in ways unimaginable. This video just shows how easy it is to help someone out using words alone.

I Loved the video, I thought it was amazing. I liked how the people was actually giving the blind man on the side of the street money. However I loved the part where the woman came along and rewrote the blind man's sign in a lovely saying, because that made more people stop and give him money.

To me it was very generouse what that lady did for that man. Even thuogh all she did was change the words it is still a great deal of meaning. Words mean a lot in many ways.

I think the video was sad because he couldn't see and people was throwing change at him.The people should have took the time to read the sign and put the money in the hat instead of dropping it.I like the fact that someone stop and took the time out to help him.

Hmmm.... I can not remember what I was originally going to say. But, how one words a sentence, and their tone of voice can alter how it was truly meant. In some cases, in a good way, and others in a not so good way. I especially liked the accent ;) [directed towards Allyssa R!]

I think this video is kinda sad becasue it shows that he could not see and needed help. He had that on his little thing he was using and the girl came up and read the sign and changed what it said and more people gave him money, the man not knowing why. When the girl came back he asked her what she did to his sign she said she said the same thing just different words. It shows that words do change the way people feel.

First Comment:
The video is good. The sign would've made their life better, because they would have money to live off of. It's sad that he is blind.
Second Comment:
If you were living in a live filled with hopelessness and desperation, you would do anything you can to get out of it. But there are some things you can't get out of, like blindness. That sign did more then get him more money. It showed him that people, even if it's just one lady, care. That sign changed his life.

Now, let me ask you this. Which comment was most effective? Words have meaning.
