RIP Donna Summer

Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco passed away last week.  You may not be familiar with her music.  Let me suggest that you listen to some of it.  Many of today's biggest pop and dance stars owe Ms. Summer a huge debt of gratitude.  She not only pioneered 12-17 minute dance numbers and disco hits, but successfully branched into pop and rock.  You could not go out dancing or to a club in the days of Disco of the late 1970's and 1980's without hearing Donna Summer's music.  Some people think that she was as big an artist as Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston.  This site is a good biographical sketch of her life.

Ms.Summer also appeared on several television shows including Family Matters, where she played Steve Urkel's aunt Oona from Altoona.  Check out this clip.  You knew that I would somehow, someday work Urkel into a blog.

After checking out her singing and acting, what do you think of her legacy and of her as an artist?  Will she be missed as much as Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston?

I think that she was a very lively artist and enjoyed what she did. She seemed like she would be very fun to be around and listen to. I know she will be deeply missed just as much as Michael jackson or Whitney Houston.

I think that she will certainly be missed. She may not be missed as much as Whitney Houston or Michael Jackson, simply because she isn't as famous as they were.

People especially her family will be sad for quite a while. I have never heard her music but I bet a lot of people have heard her. She will be missed and I hope she rests in peace.

I have never heard of her. Michael and Whitney were well known but I for one have never heard of her. I don't like the way her music sounds.

She will certainly be missed! I have never heard of her, but her music has the same type of sound as Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. But, she passed away a week ago and I'm just now hearing about; I don't think she will be remembered the same way/as much as Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.

I'm sure she will be missed. I've never heard of her though. Her music sounded nice, but I enjoy Michael Jackson's and Whitney Houston's music better.

Yes she will be missed because people love disco. I have heard about her from my parents, apparently they like her. She will be missed just as much as Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston just because she was famous.

I have no clue who this women is. I do not think she will be missed. But most people are always talking about all these famous people who are dying but don give a crap about all the soldiers that are out there fighting for our lives. Maybe one week we should have a blog about a soldier, firefighter, police officer ect. that have lost their life.

She will be missed just as much as Micheal, at least to me. She is an icon for so many and she will forever be missed. Donna was brilliant, and still will be as time goes on, for her songs will live forever!

She really doesn't do my kind of music, but I still think she was a great artist. I don't think she'll be as missed as Micheal Jackson, because I don't think she is as known as him.
