"Hair" is an Idea

Certainly, you have heard about the oil spill off the Louisiana coast and the concerns about the large amount of oil leaking. The oils slick on the Gulf of Mexico's surface is huge and rapidly becoming a hazard to marine life. In addition, it will soon be affecting the beaches in the area.

So how does this mess get cleaned up? There are many efforts currently being pursued ranging from high technology to simple cleaning up. Think for just a moment or two and you might be thinking that hair might work. That is right, there are efforts to use hair as a simple method of cleaning up the oil. You wash your hair because it gets oily and dirty. So maybe human and animal hair could be used to soak up the oil. Some people estimate that a pound of human hair can soak up a quart of oil!

Read this news article that describes some other low tech efforts.

What do you think of it? Do you think it will work, or is it just wasted effort? Be sure to proofread!

I think it would be a waste of time. Soaking oil with hair? I mean whatever floats their boat. If they wanted to give it a shot they can have at it. I do not think it will work out successfully.

I think that it might workBecuase our hair does get oily and dirty. I would want to see or hear the outcoke of this experitment. Maybe it will clean up oil spills. Maybe we have found some that can help us with oil spills.

It seems that it would be a very smart idea. Hair is an easily acquired item, and it is in large quantities. Also, it is natural, so it would simply decay, leaving no trace. This would be a brilliant idea for cleaning up the oil spill.

I think it could work. I mean I see people all the time with oily dirty looking hair. I'd try it just to see if it would work.

I do not think that it will work. I think it will be a waste of time. Plus, what person is going to want too cut off their hair too soak up some oil? I know I wouldn't do it. The idea too me is kind of dumb.

The idea seems a little far-fetched, but if there's a chance of it working, why not try it? It might be hard to collect enough hair to make this idea work though. But it's worth a shot in my opinion.

I doubt this very much. I dont think that your able to soak up all this oil. Maybe a little bit of it but not enough.

I think that this method of using hair to clean up oil spill is idiotic. I think there should be more intellegent people coming up with a better plan. I think they should try something cause this oil spill is out of control.

Well one day i hope to be a marine biologist so i care about the oil leak. It could harm a huge population of the marine life that some people take a deep interest in. So if people think hair is going to work, then everybody should start shaving their heads!

I think it’s a great idea to put hair in the water and soak up the oil. This seems very interesting and cool. I can’t wait to hear about the results, if this works or not.

I think this is a great idea. It seems logical and could work. I just don’t want to use my hair!!!

Unknown said...

I wouldnt use my hair but if people are voluteering then I approve. Well black people use grease anyway so I dont think we would be helpful. I think it is a good way to get the nation together and help.

I think that it is a complete waste of time and resources. I think that if we can come to a conclusion that hair can clean it up, we can certainly come up with a better conclusion to this environmental disaster. Its a complete waste of time.

i think hair is something good to have and you can do many things with hair and its all kinds of hair to have and thats just what i think about hair.

I think it could work. Hair does absorb oil also, it floats. Which is good because they can leave it in the water and scoop it out later, once oil is absorbed. I don't know if it's possible to burn it, not sure whether it would hurt anymore marine life or not. The oil I think is the most harmful part, It desperately needs to get cleaned up before too much damage has occurred. Everything in the surrounding area is affected and damaged in some sort. When in the ocean take care of it, be cautious. Water makes up 70 percent of the Earth!

I thank that it would be a good idea to try something to sock up all of this oil that has spilt. I wish that they can find a solution to the problem because there is a lot of animals that are getting effected by this. But that is cool that they have came up with that I hope that it works.

I think it is kind of crazy. But also, at the same time a lot of things that work are crazy. I mean it would not hurt to try..

Well if our goverment thought of this idea it has to have a good chance of working. But what ever america is about to do I suggest we do it fast beacuse more and more wild life is dissapearing by the day.

Well judging by the way that human and pet hair absorbs oil, I believe that as crazy as the idea may sound, it may work. The hard part will be to find places to gather the hair from and to get people willing to give their hair. The idea may seem crazy, but if there is a chance it may work, we might as well try it.

I think that using hair is kind of rediculous. They wouldn't be able to get enough hair to plug that leak. Besides, putting a big dome over it would be better because we could harvest the oil by attaching pumps to the dome thus using the oil and keeping the leak contained.

The oil spill was crazy; I didn’t know about it till the other day. I think that it’s a weird idea but I guess it could work. Can’t wait to see what happens.

I think there is a possibility that it will work but at the same time I believe there may be an easier way. It wouldn't be a wasted effort, nothing is a wasted effort even is it doesn't work, the fact that you tried counts. I am actually surprised that gas prices haven't risen more than they have.

I don't think the hair idea is going to work. When you wash your hair it soaks up the water but it ends up dripping out when your done. I think it will be a waste of hair that you can give to people with cancer.

I think a team of people should volunteer to help clean up this mess. This is very harmful to the animals in the environment. Maybe hair would be a good idea, its something new to try. If it does work it might be a new way clean up.

I think it could work. It would be a good thing for some people. So people just might not like it but other can won't it.

I think that it would be a waste of time who wants to use all their hair to clean up oil. If this worked than they would have prove me wrong. I think a good way to clean up the oild will be a mop.

Darion said...

It is worth a try. It would be hard to get enough hair to collect that much oil. But if it can work, it's worth a try.

christinaa said...

I do not think It will work. It seems like a waste of time. Couldn't It damage the skin of animals & people. I don't know. I'm thinking about the dangers of oil because when it gets in the water it can kill animals. Right?

I heard about the oil spill and its really bad that it happened oil is scarce and we can't afford to waste any.I don't think it will work. It seems a little far fetched and I don't they will get enough hair to clean all of it up.

Jesse Tengowski said...

I believe the hair may help clean up oil, but could have some problems. Some problems would be how they would get all the hair. If it does work hopefully it goes well and safe.

Quintus said...

i think its worth a try to use human or animal hair to asorb the oil. it would help the envirament n sole the oil spill problem

I think that using hair could clean up a lot of the oil. It absorbs oil from our skin, so I believe that it could do the same for the oil in the ocean. This was a brilliant idea. It's natural, so it wouldn't do any harm to the environment, and hair is everywhere. It wouldn't be very hard to get.
