Shift Happens

The two videos we will be watching are at the least very eye-opening and thought provoking. Do you believe the statistics you saw? Is the United States at a disadvantage, education wise? Does this make you want to work harder in school?
Does size matter? Finally, what does this imply for the future?
Think about this and reply. Remember, at least five sentences and proofread!

The statistics I saw on the movie are very much believable to me. I think the government is spending more on trying to get things better than using what we have that I think there is nothing is wrong with. Our World is going to be weird will an all technology world. As far as the “super smart” computer, I feel it’s the worst idea. How can the computers surpass human thinking if a human made it??? Education is important. Knowing that the U.S. spends more on Nintendo than on learning, is kind of scary but understandable. The U.S., I feel, doesn’t have their priorities straight. But one person can’t control the world. I believe that what my future children learn will be useless in two years after they learn it. That’s happening now. It’s very believable. It’s all just weird.

I think that the video is showing that technology is taking over education. I believe it. More technology is being created every day. I think that one day in the future computers will be smarter than humans and they will be used for literally everything. In the future i believe computers will be used mostly in education because one generation would have to teach the next how to use it. So, overall I would say that education is at both advantage and disadvantage of technology.

What I just saw in the videos was very interesting. I concur with some of the facts and I learned a lot of information by just watching that one video. I don’t really know if watching it makes me want to work harder in school or not but it does give a lot of information about the future. This means in the future everything is going to be very high tech. If the video is true then there is going to be a lot of changes made soon. Some of the changes I believe are excellent and others I’m not exactly sure yet. Yes I do believe that size matters especially with the population and the events that occur in the United States. I really thought this video was educational.

Those videos were very interesting. I do believe in the statistics in the movie because the world is growing fast and so is technology. And yes I do believe that the U.S. is at a disadvantage educationally because I don’t think they put enough effort and money into the schools. And yes it does make me want to work harder so I can be ready for my future. And yes, in my opinion I think size matters because the more you have the better. And I think the future is going to be very advanced but we'll have to wait and see.

Some of the facts that I read were really shocking. I knew that Americans went on the internet a lot, but I did not know it was that much. I don’t think we are at a disadvantage education wise. We have a lot in this country that we can learn from. I just think that we don’t use it as much as other countries do. It does make me want to work a little harder in school, but then one person is not going to make a difference unless everyone works a little harder.

I believe the statistics I was shown in the video were very real. Technology seems to be growing faster and faster, with constant improvements. In the past couple years our citizens have went from playing “Pong” to playing motion sensitive games on the Wii with people living in Japan via internet. I think that the changes can bring nothing but good things for the world if used correctly. With the right guidance and good leaders, we can use this new technology to make the world a much better place. However, if power of our newly achieved abilities is given to the wrong person, Armageddon is inevitable.

These videos made me realize that the world around us really is changing more than we think it is. The scary part about all of this information is that it’s practically right, and its warning us about what’s going to happen in the future. China alone has pretty much tripled in its population over the years, and is still growing as we speak. They say that the teachers we currently have are preparing us for problems that haven’t even been brought up yet, this is also very scary. Another thing you have to think about is what the video said about college. When I go to college, I plan going for 4 years, but the video made it sound like what you take your freshman year of college isn’t going to matter by the time you get to your junior year. . . is that going to affect the job you want to get?

I think that some of the information is true. Some of it is known facts. Like the text messaging, the average teen does text a lot and as the year goes on more and more teens and younger kids do text more. Teens are starting to text in school and out. I on average text about 300 times a day and I receive a lot more because of forwards. There is not a moment, right now, that I remember when I do not text, if one person stops I text another. I believe that the United States is down in education wise because kids really don’t care about education as much as they did back then. Most teens drop out or barely make it through high school. The school system has changed a lot also, kids get away with a lot more stuff then they did back then. When my mom was in school there were no problems of disrespecting the teacher or not getting work done. I think maybe if school was the same as it was or if more parents got involved with the school education then the education rate would grow tremendously. If school is like this now and text messaging and internet use then in the future it will be far worse.

Thinking about the future can be scary, especially when almost everyone relies on technology. Our technological advances have been helpful to connect the nations of the world, but I think there is a limit. I believe that if someone can use a computer that can out process the human brain, they will begin to lose their humanity. You see it now in low-level math courses, where kids use calculators for simple math problems. I don't think a computer that strong could ever exist. Computers operate off of set instructions. In order for it to out think a human, it would need to have free thought, and at that point it is not a computer.
As far as the "Educational War" goes, what does it matter? If we, as a race, can get beyond war, then all advances will be for the good of the race. Based upon the way people act, and the civilization differences of all the countries of the world, I don't think a war-less world is possible. I'm not saying it can't happen in the future, but right now, so many people would rather make guns than send roses.

This video was very shocking to me. It made me think about a lot of things. As I watched the video I began to think about my future and my country. As I thought about my future I thought about what I will be doing when I get out of school. When I was watching it I asked myself if my grades are good enough to carry me through the years. It surprises me that another country will out do us on speaking our own language. When I think about my country I think about how we would be out numbered and how our jobs will be taken away from us. To better myself I going to work harder in school and keep my head up. This requires me to concentrate on my future more than anything. I am determined to make it in the future.

Does Summer really text 300 times a day?

When I saw the video it was dealing with technology. It said that the people which lives in China has the highest IQ’S.
After I saw the video it makes me want to work even harder just so I can make it out there. I feel like the reason why the United States has the lowest IQ’S is because young people are dropping out of school. Some people in these other countries can’t get an education especially, the women. They would be glad to get an education like American people.

Yes, I do believe the statistics that I saw in the movie. Yes, I think the United States is at a disadvantage, education wise. It does make me want to work harder in school.. Of course, size matters. Computers and other technology are going to take over the world.

I think that the movie was right. Things are not as appreciated as they used to be. People rely on computers and technology way more than they should. Seeing the facts on the movie mad me stop and think about how important education is. Like when Mr. Downing was talking about how we could use the summers to stay in school and learn more; I think that is a good idea. Even though, of course, I enjoy my summer vacations. We need to use our time more productively than we have been in years past. Not all change is bad but when you get lazy and rely on technology to do the simplest tasks for you, there is something wrong with that.

These videos were extremely eye opening to me. I fully believe the statistics that were shown in these presentations. It is very sad that Nintendo is spending more money on research and development than our nation is on education. This shows that size does matter because China and India are much bigger than the United States and they are much more focused on education and giving their youth what they need to succeed. Watching these videos makes me want to work as hard as I can in school to prove that I am able to succeed in this fast changing world. It is heart-breaking to hear that all the stuff we are learning is going to be useless in the next couple years. To me we are wasting our time because the youth is not getting what they need or deserve. The government needs to think about the future because we will be the next leaders in about 20 years.

The videos we watched were a bit of an eye opener. It is a scary thought to see what the United States has turned into. Many more countries are more evolved and will end up being way more powerful than us. Times are changing. Things we think are simple and what we take for granted, people just 20 or so years ago did not have access to. This is the time for people to stop focusing on little stuff and open their eyes for the bigger picture.

Yes I believe in all of the statistics shown in the two videos. They were both very educational to me. I do believe that the United States is at a disadvantage, education wise because the economy doesn’t put enough money and time into it as they do other things including gas prices. Yes these videos will make me want to work harder in my education to do all that I can do. I strongly believe that size does matter because if you have enough to do something then why not do it. I think that down the road things could either get better or worse than they are today. Hopefully later down the road we will realize what we need to change before it is to late.

The statistics that were presented in the movie make plenty of sense. I think that the United States is at a disadvantage because the most people that you talk to don't care about school or education. This really makes me want to work hard because I feel that the United States is behind in the world. I think we need to step up and get more education. We should continue to gather knowledge and understanding. Size matters because the more people you educate, the better off the country will be. You have to consider how far we are already behind and think how much we have to do to catch up. The United States has a long way to go as a whole, but I think that we can get it accomplished. We have to think about where we want to stand in the world: on the top or on the bottom. Educating the nation puts you on top and that sets you apart from the rest of the world.

Change happens…the world is changing right before our eyes. The statistics I saw on the video scared me. What am I going do about it? I know I will never lay my head on my desk and think, this is not important. One thing my dad always said was “LeAnne when you get out in this world I don’t want you to have to settle” My parents have done an amazing job, supporting our family, and when I have a family I want my kids to say that about their family. I am scared for my children’s future. I don’t want to take a step down in life when I am on my own, I would like to take five steps up. I would have never thought the United States, would not be number one. Number one doesn’t mean anything when you did nothing to get there. We are the future….what are we going do about it?

hakeem said...

Yes, I believe the statistics in the video i saw. The video i saw is taking over education. But both of the videos were exciting. Technology seems to be improving more and more everyday. And size really does matter. Women are the main people who really can get an education. I hope my future does not be that bad.

Those videos were very eye-opening. These videos mean that the United States is not at the top of the world with power anymore. China and India have way more people than we do. The smartest 25% of people in China is equivalent to the whole population of North America. This just means that many of our jobs will be sent to Asia because they have a higher labor sur-plus. There people need jobs and have the same education as we do and do not expect the same amount of salary. They don’t expect such a high salary because of the rules of supply and de-mand, they are easily replaceable. Our government has a serious problem if Nintendo is spend-ing twice as much on research as they are on the innovations of education. I’m scared of my fu-ture but further more the future of my children. China is not only the largest country in the world they are communist and that is the main reason that we, The United States of America, get into many wars over the spread of communism. That is the reason we are in Iraq right now, trying to let people of the world have a say in the way they want to live. Our country is very fortunate that we have such a strong military but money that is spent on the amount of nuclear weapons that we have is just ridiculous to think that our 5,000 weapons can destroy the world just like any other country’s 100. All of that money could be put to better use.

I believe from seeing the video statistics that the world will soon become a global economy. The rest of the world is catching up with America and some countries have even exceeded many of our accomplishments. With our economy going towards more of a recession, competition in the world is getting bigger it makes me scared for my future. Will I be successful? Will I be able to provide for myself or for a family once I’m older and out on my own? This makes me want to be the best I can be. However, I believe that a large portion of my future won’t result from just my choices alone. How the United States develops and grows or doesn’t grow will effect what kind of future I can have here in America. Even if America changes some of its ways and improves more then how we are today other countries could do the same and become more powerful then us. I will always try to do my best and help when I can because I want to be the best I can be. I hope with other countries becoming more developed we can stand on more even ground and be able to help each other out. I hope that we, as Americans, can continue to reach goals and improve our education policies. It is coming to a time of change and shift does happen.

Yes, believe in some if the things that I saw in the two videos. Some of the things that the video was talking about I think will happen because it sounds so true. Yes the United States is at a disadvantage in our education and all our jobs are being shipped over seas to China because they work harder and cheaper then we do. Yes those two videos make want to work harder in school because I want to keep the job that I have now. Yes size matters.

Unknown said...

Yes I do believe the statistics I saw but I don’t want to think about that right now. The U.S.A. is at a disadvantage. There are so many people dropping out or taking the short cut out of school. Looking at the video makes me want to work hard. Try to go to collage and do well for myself. Size does matter a lot. The implication for the future does not look too good.

I think that video helps the people see that the future is closer then we what we thought. If people do not realize what is coming the will be left behind. The world is changing if you like it or not. If we are smart we need to change with it. We need to broaden our mind more than what we are used to doing. Step up our education and the way we educate to get ready for the future. If not we will be stuck in the past. While everything else moves forward. I hope people take that video seriously.
