He Must Really Enjoy School (Baby, You Can Drive My Car)

Amazing! You can't make this kind of news up. It seems that a six year old boy, right here in Virginia, missed his school bus earlier this week and tried to drive to school! Okay, he did not make it to school and the news article seems to find the event comical to an extent. Notice that his parents were arested for felony child endangerment.
What do you think of this? Should the parents have been arrested? Or, is there a more appropriate consequence for them? What else might have happened to the child? Does the child deserve ISS? Tell us what you think! (Or, have you stopped laughing?)

I think the parents should’ve been paying a little bit more attention to the child than they were. So really, they do deserve to be arrested. If there had been a lot of traffic and cars out that day, the child could’ve been seriously injured. So the police were in the right and the parents getting arrested was necessary.

I think that the six year old boy should have been supervised when he was going to catch the bus. The parents should have been arrested. I guess you could say that they neglected the child by not paying attention to him. The child could have gotten hurt way more by the accident. I think the parents should take more precautions and put things like their cars keys up. They had better be glad that this was the least that happened to their six year old son.

Well this seems like a miracle that no one got hurt in this incident. It's hard to believe that a little boy drove 10 miles! And he learned it all from playing video games. And for the parents in my opinion they shouldn't have been arrested but definitely punished. The mother should have been keeping an eye one her kid instead of sleeping.

That is really cute that the kid tried to drive to school, but at the same time where were his parents? The parents should have been watching the kid the whole time because someone could have just picked this kid up or he could have got seriously hurt. I am not sure if I think the parents should have been arrested but I do agree with giving them a fine of some sort. I think by arresting the parents they will realize how serious this was. The child obviously did not know what he was doing he just thought he was going to school. First off the parents should not leave it so the kid can go outside when he wants. I think that the story was extremely cute but it could have been a lot worse. The parents are very lucky that there kid didn’t go too far.

Knowing that the children were not to be left with the mother, I do blame her, but I also blame the father. Not knowing her circumstance, the mother should have been awake with her child to get him ready for school. He is only six and six year olds are not adults. The father should be responsible for getting a baby sitter but it may have been he usually is home but had to be at work early. Still that was his main responsibilty. The mother should be in jail. What I dont want to happen is that the media plays up the part that the child learned to drive playing video games. I can already see them blameing entertainment for the parents fault.

Alright it is the parents fault for leaving the keys in his reach. The kid most likely doesn’t like school (most kids don’t), he was more scare of his parents’ spanking he was going to get for missing the bus. I really don’t think this could happen, a six year old could reach the gas; he to small to move the sit up. I can’t see how he pulled it off. He should have known better.

I don't believe how the parents didn't catch their child driving to school. I think the parents should get arrested for child endangerment. The child could have gotten by a car and die. No, I don't think the child should have ISS because he is just a six year old child that trying to get to school.

I think that it was kind crazy. Where were the parents when all of this happened? I don’t necessarily think the parents should have been arrested. What if they were trying to find the keys to drive him to school? That just proves that you can’t take your eyes off of a child for more than two minutes. The child could have been in a serious accident. The child does deserve some kind of punishment and a good talking to. I don’t think ISS is the solution though.

I feel that the child in the article should not have been left unsupervised. The child could have been harmed in many ways. I feel that the parents should be arrested because they were promoting child endangerment. The child deserves a better home environment enable to live a safe and successful life. Since this child has unfit parents he should be given a better life. This article shows how many adults in this society are unfit for parenthood.

I don’t consider this as hilarious. I f he was late for the bus he could have woke up his parents if they were sleep and told them that I’m going to be late for the bus. But he did the wrong thing by trying to drive himself to school. That’s very dangerous he could’ve gotten killed by cars on a busy road. In my opinion the parents shouldn’t have gotten arrested instead the parents should take the toy car away from the boy.

I think this is plain hilarious. If I saw a 6-year old driving next to me on a bridge I’d probably start laughing maniacally and crash. I think that it wasn’t completely the parents’ fault that the boy drove the car, but they still deserve some blame. The boy could have caused many huge car accidents that day, but he is only six. I think the fact of him driving into a pole and almost getting killed is punishment enough. I doubt he’ll even come near a car until he’s ready for a permit.

When I read I was laughing at the first beginning. As I began to read more of the story my smile began to disappear. I think that the mother and father should not be arrested. Even though the child could’ve been hurt really, but I think that every child has their time in life when thy try dangerous things. This should a chance for the child to learn a lesson. Everything happens for a reason.

I heard about that and in my opinion, I think its kind of cool, yet crazy, that a six year old boy would try to drive. I think it takes a lot of guts for a kid that small. Though my question is where in the world did he learn how to drive? Someone must have showed him or that kid pays a lot of attention when he’s in the car. Then again where did he get the idea to drive? I think that the parents deserve to be arrested because they should have kept an eye on their child. I think that no one should really be mad at the kid, but the parents.

I think the miracle here is that the child could drive a ford Taurus for more than 5 miles without the car breaking down. The poor child would have had to wait for the tow truck, and still would have missed breakfast. As mentioned on the forum link, parents really should invest in manual cars. But more seriously, it is the parents' fault. Apparently the mother wasn't supposed to be left alone with the children. The child is six years old; it seems obvious to me that they didn't know what they were doing. My six year old nephews still have trouble tying their shoes. All the kid was thinking was that he didn't want to miss breakfast or PE. My concern is how on earth did he get the car started? I know ford isn't much for security, but I doubt the kid hot wired the car. Which means the parents left the keys within his reach. I'm glad the kid is okay. If he had been driving a REAL car, you know like something that could get to 60 MPH, he could have really gotten hurt. All I can say is, good thing the parents don't drive motorcycles.

I think a six year old, child should be supervised while on the way to school. I don't think the parents should have been arrested. I am glad the child didn’t get it hurt. I guess we don’t know what was going on in their life so we can’t judge.

I think that this situation was rather bazaar. I think that parents should have made sure that the child got on the bus. I don't think that giving them a felony was any good, but I do think that they could have found another way to deal with the problem. I can't believe the child thought they could drive to school. They could have really gotten hurt. That just shows that children and parents should be more careful.

The parents of the child should have consequences, but I do not believe that they should have been arrested. The little boy should not be punished because he tried getting to school. It's a good thing that the child was not hurt. It's crazy how far he got without being injured. I'm glad the child is okay and hopefully the parents will have learned their lesson.

I think that the parents of the child should have noticed and payed attention to the child. I think the parents should be given a warning the first time, because the child could have been seriously hurt. I believe that maybe arresting might be the best to make them realize that children should be cared for and watched. I hope that this accident will make them understand and wake up and and realize this child could have been killed.

This story is very amusing. It blows my mind to think of how smart a little boy like him could be. I do personally think that the parents should have been arrested. I do believe that the parents should be disciplined for child endangerment. This six year old boy could have been seriously injured and possibly killed from this incident. These parents need to stick to their duties and watch the child all the time. If they watched him better than this incident would have never happened and the parents would not be in so much hot water.

This story sounds funny at first, but once you read the whole story it really makes you think. The kid put many people in danger and the parents should have some responsibility, but some freak things like that just happen. In the story, it says that the dad was at work and he isn't allowed to speak to the child and the mom was sleeping. He was unsupervised at the time, but maybe the mom was sick. Apparently he is responsible enough to get himself up in the morning and get ready for school; and you never hear that you need to watch out for your kid driving himself to school. Even though this happened, he has a bright future if he enjoys school that much.

I think it is very hilarious. I do think the parents should be arrested. If you do not watch a six year old you never know what they will do. I’m just glad that the child didn’t get hurt. But yet still laughing.

To me this seems unreal. For a six year old child to drive his on self to school seems hilarious! My question is why was'nt his parents standing outside with him at his bus stop he should have been supervised. The dangers that follow this incident could have ended up fatal. I believe that his parents should be put behind bars for this because it's just ridicualous.

I believe that the father shouldn’t of ever left the child home with his mother. I mean come on he wasn’t supposed to. I believe that someone should have been watching the child. I mean come on a six year old waiting for the bus all by himself. I would of at least watched my kid go to the bus stop and possibly even walk with them. I think that the police could of done something else besides arresting them because now the parents are gone and there is no one to watch the kid be was probably sent to child services. And everyone knows that kids don’t like child services. Because they don’t know anyone and they are really lost and confused.

To be for real I think that what he did was dangerous and he should known that it was wrong. I think that the parents should not have been arrested but one of them should have been up too make sure that he got on the bus. If anyone wonted too there could have taken him if there wonted to. If he was not stopped he could hit someone or worst killed someone or himself. No I think that he does not deserve ISS because what he did was not on school grounds.

Yes I do think the parents should have been arrested because they should have watch there baby. No the baby should not get iss because when your six your parents makes all the right choices for you at least their suppose to. What I’m wondering what happen to the kid .

If parents do not step up to be parents the future is not bright. The parents need to be in jail in my opinion. Who was there to take care of thier son? They need to be fined for their wrong doing. It is sad when people do not want to be with their kids.
