Happy Kwanzaa




Kwanzaa begins the day after Christmas. Kwanzaa is a celebration of family, community, and culture that lasts until Jan 1.


The celebration looks at seven principles that one person terms: "the best of African thought and practice in constant exchange with the world. "


Take a few moments and peruse the link to the official website of Kwanzaa. There are many things that you can learn about this celebration.




Your assignment is learn at least three facts about Kwanzaa. List these in your post. Put some effort into this!

Kwanzaa celebrates what it is to be African and be a good citizen in your community. The rapid groowth of Kwanzaa is of great importance to those who take great pride in celberating this holiday.

It was a way to celebrate and promote the African American culture. Kwanzaa focuses on seven principles namely unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. Candles in a Kinara are lit for each day of the celebration. A black candle is lit on the first day; it symbolizes the people. To the left of the black candle are three red candles representing their struggles. To the right of the black candles are three green candles which represents hope and the future.

  15. I think Kwanzaa is a neat holiday. It is an African holiday. It starts the day after Christmas. The day after Christmas in Canada is Boxing Day. So Kwanzaa and Boxing Day are on the same day.

  18. Today I learned that the founder of Kwanzaas name was Dr. Maulana Karenga. I also learned that Kwanzaa is celabrated from December 26-January 1. Kwanzaa also has a theme every year this years is Repairing and Renewing the World. Kwanzaa is a hoilday that is celabrated by most African Americans.
